Why Are Children Inactive Today?
Children and teenagers today become physically inactive and tend to lead asedentary lifestyle.Yet it is known to all that lack of physical activity canimpair the healthy growth and development of them. This can cause numerous andlong-term negative consequences by placing children teenagers at risk of poorphysical, social, intellectual, emotional and mental health outcomes inadulthood.Looking into the issue,we may find several contributors to this problem. To start with, the family seems to take the blame. When the parents lack themotivation or desire to exercise and physical fitness hasn't been a valuedactivity in the family,a teen is less likely to put forth the effort or find the motivation to exercise. If a teenager is overweight or feels self-consciousabout their physical capabilities, they may also feel less motivated to exercise. Some teens in this situation feel embarrassed to exercise in public. Besides,an examination of the community or the neighborhood could also revealthe cause of the problem.Often children and teens don't have access to exercise guidance, equipment, sports teams and space to participate in anyphysical activity.A lack of access makes it more difficult for them to exercise regularly.

Power Suits for Those in Need “Robot, stand up”-Oscar Constanza,16,gives the order and slowly but surely alarge frame strapped to his body lifts him up and he starts walking.Fastened to his shoulders, chest, waist, knees and feet, the exoskeleton(仿生外骨髓)allows Oscar—whose nerves do not send enough signals to his legs—to walk across theroom and turn around."Before,I needed someone to help me walk ...this makes mefeel independent."said Oscar,as his father Jean-Louis Constanza, one of people who make the wearable machine, looks on.“One day Oscar said to me:'dad, you're arobotic engineer, why don't you make a robot that would allow us to walk?"his father recalls. Now the father has had his own company,Wandercraft, and it is just one of the companies that manufacture power suits, the kind his son wears. They compete to make them as light and usable as possible. Some are focused on helping disabled people walk, others on a series of applications, including making standing lesstiring for factory workers.Wandercraft's power suit,an outer frame that supports but also simulates body movement, has been sold to dozens of hospitals in France,Luxembourg and the United States, for about 150,000 euros apiece,Constanza said.It is still unavailable for private individuals due toits high price —that is the next stage the company is working on. Just outside Paris,33-year-old Kevin Piette, who lost the ability to walk in abike accident 10 years ago, tries one on,walking around his flat, remote controller in hand."In the end it's quite similar:instead of having the information going from the brain to the legs,it goes from the remote controller to the legs,"he said. The power suit in fact has an official name:exoskeletons and people have seensomething like that in films. For instance,Ellen Ripley's power loaderin“Aliens,"or Iron Man's armor are just exoskeletons. In the past, such exoskeletons—metal frameworks fitted with motorized “muscles”that can multiply the wearers'strength far beyond that of normal humans—were entirely fictional. The only real-world exoskeletons were the natural external coverings of animals such as beetles and crabs. Today, such exoskeletons are becoming a reality;perhaps several hundred commercial and experimental power suits now operate globally. But until somebody invents the equivalent of the palm sized power plant,real-world exoskeleton suits will have to make do with an alltoo-limited power supply. Even if current power suits don't give people super human powers, they will increasingly impact people's lives by helping people like Oscar Constanza and Kevin Piette get around safely and independently.
